May 4 --
Hello, Dr. Silver and my parents,
Sorry I couldn’t call you
yet. I didn’t get a cell phone yet. Anyway I am having a wonderful time. Sometimes I feel like I’m dreaming and the country cannot be real. I also
still can’t believe I’m in China. Yesterday, we went to the Great Wall. It was
amazing even though it was not what I had expected. The Great Wall is nothing
like the pictures. It is so beautiful stringing along the top of a mountain surrounded by grass and trees. First, we walked around 3 kms to reach it. When we arrived at the wall, the
air was clear and it was so peaceful up there. I took lots and lots of
pictures, a few of which I am posting here; but I can't wait to show you the rest.
The people here are so nice, helpful and understanding. Also the professors with
us make sure that we are always having a good time and we don’t need
anything. Today, May 4th, we went to the Forbidden City and
Tiananmen Square. The Forbidden City was amazing with beautiful art work and designs. We had a tour guide with us that explained everything that happened and how the
Forbidden City was built almost 2000 years ago. I took lots of
pictures of the different rooms and the buildings from inside. I was amazed at how they built and organized the city. We were supposed to go the
Olympic village today, which I was so excited about; but sadly I couldn’t
cause my friend, Carly, got sick and we had to take her to the hospital. Katie, Professor Mao and I went with her. I am totally happy that I went with her and that is
she way better now. We also took pictures walking out of the hospital just
laughing and happy, and I think that was way more important to look out for her
than visiting places. Also, Professor Mao made sure Carly is
fine, and she is always trying to make us happy. I am really grateful for how
she takes care of us. Anyway I have to go eat some Chinese food now, which I’m
obsessed with. We travel to Chongqing tomorrow where I'll buy a phone and call you. Dr. Silver, we can't wait to see you.
